AYK opened in 1983 under the watchful eye of its founder Calvin Thomas. His dream was to produce the best martial artists in the world. Mr. Thomas earned his Black Belt in 1980, in 1982 he won his first State Championship. In 1991and 1993 he went on to win the NASKA National Championships. One of Mr. Thomas's most memorable titles was the 1993 IAKSA World Championship which he won in Demark (he was the first American to ever win this title). In 1994 Mr. Thomas was named the President of IAKSA USA. After producing fourteen World Champions and coaching forty others to gold medals victory, his greatest reward still lies in the continued success of his students in their personal lives.
